parc de la ciutadella!

February 8th, ( re-vamped April 30th)

Hey guys,  today i finally got to go to the park i have been dying to see called parc de la ciutadella. It is a beautifullllll park that was build around the citadel from roman times. This citadel was build on the outer part of town as a fort for soldiers to look out over the sea and protect the barcelona borders. When the town was planning on building a big park, they thought they could build it around this monument, instead of tearing it down. thankfully they did because the fortress is beautiful, i didnt get to go inside, im not sure if you can but we can try when you guys come we can definitely visit this park and bring lunch to eat inside of it or something.
Another thing i learned about the park was that it had been built during one of the  universal exhibitions to take place in barcelona. This took place in 1888. This building definately helped barcelona gain popularity, because this park was a major green park added to the town. It is a beautiful place to go and hang out, or to walk around, jog around or even take out row boats !  I came back to this park once again in april when my boyfriend visited and it was a great time. We took out the rowboats, i showed im the old citadel and we walked around the HUGE structure built during the exhibition!
After this , we went to the Arc De Trriumph that is attached to the park. This is a great place to bring visitors  It too was built for the Exposición Universal de Barcelona (1888), as its main access gate by architect Josep Vilaseca i CasanovasThe arch is built in reddish brickwork in the Moorish Revival style. The front frieze contains the stone sculpture "Barcelona rep les nacions"- saying that  "Barcelona welcomes the nations" - written  byJosep ReynésThe arch is located between Passeig de Lluís Companys and Passeig de Sant Joan, at the end of a wide promenade connecting with the Park of the Ciutadella
